Description Garret Hobart was active in New Jersey politics but never held a national office before his election as vice president in 1897.  He was a close adviser to McKinley and was a popular figure in Washington.  Hobart was the sixth vice president to die in office and was succeeded in that position by Theodore Roosevelt, who became president upon the death of McKinley.  Garret Hobart was a strong supporter of the gold standard.  Hobart was more assertive as senate president than his predecessors, ruling on disputes and trying to expedite legislation.  He was instrumental in securing the ratification of the Treaty of Paris and ending the Spanish-American War.  Hobart significantly expanded the powers of the vice presidency, taking a leadership role as president of the Senate and as a presidential adviser. This U.S. Vice President Garret Hobart History Mug is part of our U.S. Vice Presidents Series which includes all of the US Vice Presidents. The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history.  The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton.  He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia-tone.  The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont. Mugs are food and microwave safe. To preserve photographic quality we recommend hand washing. Mugs are usually shipped within 3-5 days.
