Description Spiro Agnew served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War.  He was governor of Maryland prior to being elected vice president under Richard Nixon in 1968.  He was investigated for extortion, tax fraud, bribery and conspiracy by the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland.  He pleaded no contest to a single charge of tax fraud with the condition that he resign the office of vice president.  Spiro Agnew was the second vice president to resign in American history, the first being John C. Calhoun, but the first to resign because of criminal charges.  Agnew is often ranked among the worst vice presidents in the history of the United States.  Nixon replaced Agnew with House Minority Leader Gerald Ford as vice president, who then became president when Nixon resigned due to the Watergate scandal. This U.S. Vice President Spiro Agnew History Mug is part of our U.S. Vice Presidents Series which includes all of the US Vice Presidents. The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history.  The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton.  He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia-tone.  The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont. Mugs are food and microwave safe. To preserve photographic quality we recommend hand washing. Mugs are usually shipped within 3-5 days.
