Description John Garner was a lawyer and Democratic politician from Texas and elected to the U.S. Congress when Hoover was president.  He served as Speaker of the House until his election as the vice president under F.D.R.  A conservative Southerner, he opposed Roosevelt᾽s New Deal’s deficit spending and strikes by labor unions.  He broke again with F.D.R. over enlarging the Supreme Court. John Garner described the vice presidency as being “not worth a bucket of warm piss.”  When Roosevelt ran for a second term, Garner was passed over in favor of Henry Wallace.  He retired from politics in 1941 to manage his extensive real estate holdings.  On November 22, 1963, Garner, who turned 95 that day, received a celebratory call from President John Kennedy just hours before J.F.K.’s assassination. This U.S. Vice President John Garner History Mug is part of our U.S. Vice Presidents Series which includes all of the US Vice Presidents. The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history.  The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton.  He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia-tone.  The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont. Mugs are food and microwave safe. To preserve photographic quality we recommend hand washing. Mugs are usually shipped within 3-5 days.
