Description Toni Morrison was born Chloe Ardelia Wofford.  She was an American novelist, essayist, editor, teacher, and professor emeritus at Princeton University. Toni Morrison wrote 11 novels, many of them touching on life as a black American.  She won the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award in 1988 for her book  Beloved.  The story centered on a female slave who escaped Kentucky to the free state of Ohio.  In 1993, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature becoming the first black woman of any nationality to win the prize.  In 2012, President Barack Obama presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This Toni Morrison History Mug is part of our biographical author series which includes many unique individuals who played an important part in molding our U.S. history. The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history.  The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton.  He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia tone.  The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont. Mugs are food and microwave safe. To preserve photographic quality we recommend hand washing. Mugs are usually shipped within 3-5 days.
