Description William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He attended Fisk University, Berlin’s Humboldt University, and Harvard University where he became the first African American to earn a doctorate. W.E.B Du Bois taught at Wilberforce University and Atlanta University. He was a prolific author, his collection of essays, The Souls of Black Folk, and his book Black Reconstruction in America are some of his notable works. Dr. Du Bois was a leader of the “Niagara Movement,” a black civil rights group that pushed for full equal rights and increased political representation. In 1910, he helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Writings of W.E.B.
