Crosier, Eugene – Civil War

Description Eugene Crosier was born in Lincoln, Vermont in 1840.  The 1850 Census records show he lived in Bristol, Vermont, and had 7 brothers and sisters.  Eugene enlisted in August 1863 in the 54th Massachusetts Infantry.  Two of his brothers, Nelson and Silas, also joined the 54th in 1863.  The famous attack at Fort Wagner, in which 330 Union soldiers, mostly from the 54th, were killed, happened in July 1863.  Thus Eugene and his brothers were not members of the 54th when that battle occurred.  They served the remainder of their enlistments in the southeast coastal areas.  Eugene Crosier is buried in the Briggs Hill Cemetery in Bristol, Vermont. The biographical History Mugs were created to teach and inspire individuals to learn about our diverse and interesting history.  The biographies were researched and written by history enthusiast, Robert Compton.  He colorized most of the historic photos and images used on the mugs, which were originally black and white or sepia tone.  The images and biographies are imprinted on mugs at his studio in rural Vermont.
